The University of Oregon Department of Classics is excited to be hosting the 52nd meeting of the Classical Association of the Pacific Northwest (CAPN) on Friday, March 15th and Saturday, March 16th, 2023.

Keynote

The keynote lecture will be given by Professor Ann Kuttner of the University of Pennsylvania at 7:30 on Friday, March 15th in the Gerlinger Alumni Lounge.

Abstract and Roundtable Submission

Call for Papers: We invite papers on any aspect of the ancient Mediterranean world, including Greece, Rome, Egypt, and the Ancient Near East. Papers may be broad and interdisciplinary; they may be narrowly focused on a specific problem; they may take up issues comparison or reception. We also welcome pedagogical papers, especially those that address the instruction of Latin and Greek at the primary, secondary, and university levels. Teachers and students of Classics at any level of instruction (K-12, college, or university) are encouraged to submit abstracts.

Proposals for Roundtables:
Topics might include: challenges and opportunities in teaching Greek and Latin in the current educational climate; discussion about recent department/program closures and how we might respond; or labor issues and concerns for faculty in the Pacific NW.

Presentations should be no longer than 18 minutes in length and roundtables will last roughly an hour.

Travel and Lodging

Conference activities will take place in Allen Hall on the University of Oregon Eugene campus.

Parking on campus:

In order to purchase visitor parking permits, you must use the UO Transportation Services Permit Portal. Lot parking is $5/day. There is also nearby garage parking in the 13th Avenue Garage. Parking in the 13th Avenue Garage is $2/hr, maxing out at $18/day.  The closest lots to the conference are TBA.
